Richard MacDonald is the greatest living sculptor, with a style that blends the dynamism and beauty of Rodin and Bernini. As collectors, we are invited to his one-man show each year in Monterey, California. This year, for his Magnus Opus show, he did something unique, holding the exhibition at his foundry. We saw the whole process from conception to model to executed product. The show included a live demonstration of pouring bronze, which has been heated to over 2,000 degrees. Even 15 feet away, the heat was intense! The show also included performances by some of his models, who are frequently dancers, gymnasts, and Cirque du Soleil performers. I’m standing next to the full-life version of his Trumpeter (I love my 1/3 life). It was truly a memorable evening!
